My objection was bunching in Ocala with smaller towns like Live Oak or Lake City which are even less diverse than Ocala. This seems to work out great for us!
No wonder a lot of people here date these foreign people and abuse them. I lived in Ft. Which I think is too bad. Ocala is not the servile but you could probably pick worse areas. This seems to work out great for us. Ocala overall is much more conservative restrictive than a liberal free thinking city like Miami. But the klan members in Miami are small fish in a big pond.
You get my comparison??? I know I have witnessed it more frequently over the last three years in Marion county. I was born and raised in Florida, and I find Florida to be mostly accepting.
Black Singles Meetups in Tampa - Make sure you choose a place where you feel comfortable so that you come across calm and relaxed. An interracial couple will fit in much easier in Miami than in a town that isn't as diverse lets just say.
Doggiebus, Ocala is definately conservative but interacial marriages are not unusual. Marion county is much more diverse than Lake City or Live Oak. Whether or not they are accepted or not I really don't know because I have not been in one. You definately see interacial couples holding hands in public without much glances. I know I have witnessed it more frequently over the last three years in Marion county. Many people still think the south is land of the klan, midnight lynchings and colored and white water fountains. Of course, there are some rural areas that frown upon interacial relationships, and even larger cities upnorth that frown upon interacial relationships. Has anybody ever been to Bensonhurst? Black people got beat down just for entering this area and interacial unions was out of the picture. Yet you would never associate racism with NYC like you do in the south. One place I would recommend all non-white people not venture very far is the Ocala National Forest or Fort Mcoy. Both areas have mostly white populations and many still cling on to their visions of the old south. Everywhere else in Marion County is cool. Understand there are also areas where a white person date not venture either. Not too many white people are invited in parts of the town that are predominately black either. If a white person happen to venture these areas they might just find themselves severly beaten or their vital organs punctured by a automatic weapon of choice. I am sure there are a handfull of interracial marriages in Ocala. But compared to Miami as someone listed, which I was comparing Ocala too. Ocala overall is much more conservative restrictive than a liberal free thinking city like Miami. An interracial couple will fit in much easier in Miami than in a town that isn't as diverse lets just say. Don't get me wrong I like Ocala I have friends that live there and they love it, but the poster asked which places in Florida are more excepting of an interracial couple. That would be the larger cities, more soo just the South Florida Counties Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade as they are much more diverse than the other parts of Florida. But Miami is so large that there are many other places to go, compared to a smaller town like Ocala. South of Miami I know the klan is still kicking, unfortunatly. But the klan members in Miami are small fish in a big pond. And the klan in towns in north florida are also small fish but in a small pond. You get my comparison??? You would think that any place in this country an interracial couple went, they would be welcomed today, but it isn't so yet it may take 100 years till we get to that point because people are scared for some reason, of something. I understand your point in South Florida's diversity and that south Florida is probably more accepting. Having only lived in Fort Lauderdale as a child I really don't know all of south Florida. I will refrain from making any judgements on south Florida's tolerance for different ethnic groups. My objection was bunching in Ocala with smaller towns like Live Oak or Lake City which are even less diverse than Ocala. While Ocala's not as diverse as Miami it does have a portion of different ethnic groups that is gradually growing. With that said diversity does not always gurantee that said ethnic groups will intermingle or be as accepting. Just look at NYC,Baltimore,or even Boston where many sections of the population would probably not be as approving of interactial relationships. The issue is always deeper than just racist attitudes. Many ethic groups just want their sons or daughters to intermingle within their own and really harbor no malice against those of the opposite ethnic group. Infact, I recently read a study that indicated that multi-ethnic communities often lacked trust and communication. The original poster wanted to know good cities for interactial relationships. Ocala is not the best but you could probably pick worse areas. You will not find this amongst the older people but its not that big of a deal for people around my age range. Most of the people I see are probably just dating instead of marrying. Honestly, I don't really know or care to know. You also notice many white girls with multi-ethnic children. I also have 3 bi-racial children. I lived in Ft. Myers, and I had no problems whatsoever. I now live in Ocala, and I've never had any problems during the past 6 years we've been here. But DO NOT live in the Ocala National Forest!! I really don't think there are too many places that have a problem with interracial relationships anymore. I was born and raised in Florida, and I find Florida to be mostly accepting. I also make it a point to live in neighborhoods and attend churches that have various races and age groups. We don't want anyone in our family to feel singled out, and we want them to be accepting of others also. This seems to work out great for us!
